Discover the Rhône Glacier up close – from the alpine glacial landscape right down to the blue ice.

Your ticket includes the full Rhône Glacier experience:
• A small ice grotto shaped by the summer heat and glacial retreat
• Glacier nature trail through the landscape shaped by ice
• Glacial lake and source of the Rhône
• Glacier viewpoint and lake viewpoint with stunning views
• Access via the visitor paths that have been laid out and are maintained
• Alpine garden featuring alpine flora

The trail takes you approximately 680 metres from the entrance through the glacial landscape to the ice grotto. Please allow at least 30–35 minutes for your visit.

*If the ice grotto is closed, a reduced admission fee of CHF 6.- applies. The glacier nature trail, the glacial lake and the viewing platforms can still be visited, conditions permitting.

Tickets and payment

You can buy tickets directly at the venue (no online tickets), Booking is not required. Cash payments are preferred, though payment in various foreign currencies is also possible. Credit cards accepted for amounts under SFr. 30.– (plus a 10% surcharge). 

Please do not stray from the official path to the ice grotto and the glacial lake. Under no circumstances should you enter the area behind the ice grotto. Due to natural alpine hazards such as rockfall and unstable terrain, leaving the visitor area, stepping onto the glacier, the ice or the lateral moraines, or approaching the glacial lake can be life-threatening! You must observe the barriers and on-site notices. If you fail to do so, you enter the area at your own risk. The operators accept no liability for any resulting damage.   • The ice grotto is part of the whole Rhône Glacier experience. Due to natural movement and the glacier’s sharp retreat, it is constantly changing.
  • The ice cave is located at almost 2,300 meters above sea level on the Valais side, 3 km below the Furka Pass, at the Belvédère town sign, near the Hotel Belvédère.
  • The tour lasts at least 30 minutes. The walk, with information panels, to the ice grotto takes approximately 15 minutes (680 meters and an elevation gain of 85 meters).
  • The tour is individual, i.e. without a guide.
  • Sturdy footwear is essential. A warm jacket for wind and rain protection is recommended.
  • The path is not barrier-free and therefore unsuitable for people with walking difficulties and is not wheelchair accessible.

  • Separate offer: The Kneipp facility is not included in the Rhone Glacier Experience admission ticket

For a great on-site experience

By CAR, MOTORCYCLE, BICYCLE or BUS

You'll find us directly on the Furka Pass road. Customer parking for cars is located in the square in front of the snack bar. Parking for buses, camper vans, motorcycles, and additional parking for cars is located behind the Hotel Belvédère on the Furka road toward the Furka Pass. The Furka Pass is open to buses up to 2.55 meters wide without restrictions on both sides of the pass, including the Uri side from Andermatt. The maximum permitted weight is 18 tons (trailers are prohibited).

By PUBLIC TRANSPORT

  • By bus: (Bus stop "Obergoms, Belvédère-Furka") from June 20th to October 4th, 2026, take the yellow PTT travel service bus from Andermatt, Oberwald or Meiringen. The journey can easily be combined with a train journey connect.
  • By Furka Steam Railway from Realp, through the tunnel to the Muttbach terminus. Then, a hike of approximately 40 minutes to Belvédère.

 IMPORTANT NOTICE

  • Drone overflights are only permitted after consultation and upon timely written request to admin@gletscher.ch. Video and photographic recordings of the glacier grotto (inside and out) for media publications are only permitted upon request.
  • The publication of photographs and videos of the ice grotto and the Hotel Belvédère for commercial and official purposes requires the permission of the operators and owners.
  • Access to the glacier, the ice grotto, and the glacier nature trail is via private property. The elaborate network of trails is maintained and constructed by the operators of the ice grotto. Public access to the glacier and the surrounding mountains is via the Four Springs Trail, which begins approximately 50 meters above the Hotel Belvédère and continues toward the Furka Pass.
 

The area is monitored by cameras. Violations will be prosecuted.
